Powerful, fast motor lock for doors with door automation
STEP 552 can be placed in door environments with the absolute toughest intrusion protection requirements. The lock has the same fine features and technologies as STEP 550, the difference between them is that STEP 552 has a unique AutomaticLatchBolt™ and is adapted for door automation.
Strong and manipulation-protected hook bolt
The hook bolt is exceptionally strong, with a breaking strength of 56 kN (5,600 kg). A manipulation protected barrier automatically blocks the hook bolt upon locking, while an indicator detects the bolt’s position. This ensures that you can trust the door is truly locked.
For door environments with the highest security requirements
- Protection class 1, 2, 3 acc. to SSF 200.
- Certified for burglary protection in Class 5 acc. to SSF 3522 and Grade 7 acc. to EN 12209.
- Approved for use in lock systems for many security doors in class RC3 and RC4.
- Includes panic locking function.
With unique FreeDrive®
The FreeDrive® technology enables the locks motor and gearbox to disengage every time the door unlocks mechanically. This means that the wear minimizes when using lever handle, knob, keys or emergency exit device. Locks with FreeDrive® are therefore ideal for use with STEP Exit on emergency exit doors and can be operated thousands of times daily.
For door environments with fire requirements
Certified in fire technical class E/EI120 acc to. EN 14846.
For door environments with evacuation requirements
Certified for evacuation acc to. EN 179. Go to the Exitguide to find emergency devices for STEP 552.
Unique AutomaticLatchBolt™ increases accessibility
Thanks to the unique AutomaticLatchBolt™, STEP 552 can be used with door automation and ensure accessibility requirements. When the door is opened electrically, the AutomaticLatchBolt™ can be fold and thus enables opening with door automation. Immediately after the door is opened, the AutomaticLatchBolt™ extends out and anchors itself in its position, functioning again as a classic latch bolt.

With STEPs patented Preload technology
Our unique STEP Preload technology allows the door to unlock, even if the lock is exposed to high preload pressure. STEP 552 can unlock even if subjected to pressure of up to 80 kg.
Control unit with many smart features
ST500C control unit uses encrypted OSDP AES-128 communication for locking, unlocking and status signals. It can manage up to two motor locks, which can be controlled individually or synchronized.
The control unit has multiple selectable AUX outputs and supports features like re-locking or re-entry.
Swedish premium quality
All our products are developed and manufactured by us in Sweden. Maximum functionality and operational reliability are features we never compromise on. By choosing STEP, you not only support Swedish technology and industry – you also choose premium-quality products that ensure long-term reliability.
For doors with explosion protection
Doors that must meet explosion protection requirements should also be equipped with motor locks that ensure the highest level of intrusion security. The motor locks in the STEP 500 series can be used in the following explosion-protected doors:
- Daloc S93 (explosion class EPR1)
- Daloc S95 (explosion class EPR4 (also available as EPR2 and EPR3)).
Class EPR4 is the highest level of explosion protection.
